Workshop Goals and Scientific Program

Since the discovery of supersolidity in helium in 2004, many research groups have focused on understanding this paradoxical state of matter. Despite the intense efforts of theorists and experimentalists around the world, many open questions remain, for example the microscopic mechanism of supersolidity, the role of crystal defects and disorder, and whether superflow is possible.

The interplay between theory and experiment has been invaluable in understanding solid helium and has been greatly enhanced through a series of timely workshops devoted to supersolidity. Supersolidity  2010 will follow the tradition of these earlier meetings. It will bring together theorists and experimentalists actively working in this exciting field, to discuss new ideas and recent results in an informal setting. The program will include ample time for informal discussion. Invited talks will be about 45 minutes long and include time for questions. Some support will be provided for young participants (graduate students and postdocs). We will also have a poster session where all participants are encouraged to present their most recent research results.

The workshop was a great success with many important original results and lively discussions.
The next one will be organized by A. Kuklov and H. Kojima in New York city, in June 2011.
