Education and positions

Ø     01/2001-01/2004: PhD project in Physics at Laboratoire de Physique Statistique, Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris ( the thesis is under refereeing procee, dissertation defense scheduled on 31/03/2004 ).  Title of the thesis: "Dynamics and Evolution of Complex Networks in Socio-Economical Networks".

Ø     03/2002-03/2004 European Contract FET-IST department of the European Community, Grant IST-2001-33555 COSIN.

I continued my PhD thesis within the COSIN project (www.cosin.org) : I worked on the propagation of decisions in social networks [5], on the structure of social networks [7] and on the structure of ownership networks [6] [8] [9].

Ø      01/2001-02/2002 "Convention CIFRE" involving the Ecole Normale (G. Weisbuch) and Eurobios (E. Bonabeau).

Eurobios is a consulting company offering complexity science solutions to business and management (www.eurobios.com). Within the company I was in charge of fundamental research on dynamical systems and models of opinion dynamics. Such work has later resulted in articles [10] and [4].  Publication [4] has been commented on Nature News [a].

I contributed to the elaboration of the proposal of the european project COSIN which has obtained a grant for 2002-2005.

Ø     04/1999- 12/2000, research assistant fellowship and Master Degree in Neuroscience at Brandeis Univ., Waltham, MA, USA

Ø     Courses and practical assignments in Neurobiology, Neural Networks Models, Machine Learning, Evolutionary Game Theory.

Ø     I was hosted in the laboratory DEMO (Dynamical and Evolutionary Machine Organization, http://demo.cs.brandeis.edu), directed by J.Pollack.

Ø     As a specific short term project I studied the co-evolution of fractals (see my web page)

Ø     Another specific short term project was about the representation of one-dimensional stimuli (such as a vibration frequency or a visual angle) in a neural network (see my web page) in the laboratory of Computational Neuroscience directed by XJ Wang.

Ø     10/1998-03/1999, research assistant contract in Prof. Mathew Diamond laboratory at SISSA (Internat.School for Advanced Studies):

Ø     Information Processing in Rat Barrel Cortex [3]

Ø     Development of a user interface software (in Matlab) for the interactive classification of action potentials in neural recordings [1]

Ø     03/1998-09/1998, research assistantship in Prof. Vincent Torre laboratory at SISSA : Information Processing in the Leech Ganglion. I continued the work done during the thesis [2].

Ø     March 1998, Degree of  “Laurea” in Physics at Padova University, Italy, after submission of the Laurea Thesis "Neuronal Networks: Statistical Methods and Mutual Information Measure", awarded with the maximum score (110/110). "Neuronal" means network of live cells. Supervisors: Prof. Attilio Stella, Prof. Vincent Torre. Thesis work in Prof. V. Torre laboratory at SISSA (International School for Advanced Studies, www.sissa.it ), Trieste, Italy.

Ø     1992 Diplome de "Licenza Classica" ( Baccalaureat Licee Classique) , majors : Greek and Latin Literature, maximum score 60/60.
