A three month program on computational neuroscience will be hosted by the Emile Borel Center of Institut Henri Poincaré (IHP) from January 7 to April 12, 2002. Lectures by international faculty invited on a long term basis will be given to local graduate students interested in modelling, with background in either biology or mathematics/physics, as part of existing degree courses in cognitive sciences, applied mathematics, and neuroscience. These lectures are more generally open to students and researchers interested in computanional neuroscience. In addition, seminars and several specialized workshops will be organized. There will be ample opportunity of fruitful interactions between participants, both experimentalists and theorists. The proceedings of the trimester will be published as a special issue of J. Physiol. (Paris). A limited amount of fellowships will be available for PhD students.
The IHP is located in the very center of Paris near several research institutes and scientific universities (Ecole Normale Superieure, College de France, Institut Curie, ESPCI, IBPC, Universities Paris 5, 6 and 7,...). Invited lecturers will be hosted either by the IHP, nearby research institutes or institutes in the paris area (Ecole Polytechnique, CNRS Campus Gif-sur-Yvette, Université Paris XI)
The Henri Poincaré Institute organizes at the Centre Emile Borel thematic semesters or trimesters, usually in mathematics and theoretical physics (see http://www.ihp.jussieu.fr/index-ceb.html). The organizing comittee of the IHP has recently decided to broaden the themes of the sessions to other disciplines than mathematics and physics.
Lectures, seminars and workshops will discuss both experimental and theoretical aspects of computational neuroscience. The focus will be on the study of the dynamics at the synaptic, neural and network levels, of collective phenomena, and statistical aspects in the analysis of neural systems. Several topics of interest will be the subjects of specialized workshops:
From synaptic to brain imaging (14-16 January 2002)
Homeostasis, plasticity and learning: from experiments to algorithms
(4-6 March 2002 - program and registration).
Functional representations and dynamics of cell assemblies
(8-10
April 2002 - program and registration)
A weekly seminar will take place on wednesdays at 11 am (see the detailed program for these and other seminars).
