Cargese Summer School
14-26 July 2008
The Geometry and Mechanics of Growth
in Biological Systems
Registration Closed
All Lectures are aimed at a general, multidisciplinary audience. Moreover, the School will feature two introductory courses on plant development and the physics of continuous media.
The topics covered include:
Plant development:
Apical growth and leaf initiation; biochemical processes and genetic expression; mechanical forces and mecanotransduction.
Animal development:
Embryogenesis; growth of epithelial tissues and of bones; biochemical processes and genetic expression; mechanical forces and mecanotransduction.
Physics and mechanics applied to morphogenesis:
Elasticity and growth; instabilities and pattern formation; computer modelling.
